Okay, hang with me on this.  The name of my character is…Ottilie.  It rhymes with “naughtily,” which rings true for her more than once in a blue moon.  She’d like for me to inform y’all (her word) that she prefers to go by Otto. You can call her Ottilie, though, if you don’t mind being hog tied.

Yes, I realize that this was not one of the poll choices or suggestions…per se.  It was borne out of a concept suggested here.  Originally I wanted to use some sort of odd, almost masculine nickname, like Amy, Avily, and Travis suggested, but by the time I wrote the November 22 post, I hadn’t come up with one. There were so many great names suggested, though, that I wish she had ten names!

The deal-sealing inspiration came during a Thanksgiving discovery, one I’ll share later in more detail.

Thanks so much for diving in with me.  Now, if only I my fingers on the keyboard can keep Otto under control…

    Yay! She has a name!

I like Ottilie— I mean Otto!

I went to college with a guy named Bill Otto. He was never Bill or Otto, but always Bill Otto.

I like it! Congrats on coming up with a name, and I’m looking forward to hearing the story behind it!

Love Otto…I cannot wait to read what you are writing!!!

  3. Amy Deardon Says:

OK, now I can sleep knowing that Ottilie has a name :-) Good choice!

At first I was not sure about Ottilie, but when you shortened it to Otto, I warmed to it. A good friend from college (last name Otto) was called Otto by everyone, and she had a smidgen of your character in her. It will be interesting to see how she develops.

Thanks for your honest responses. It’s kinda funny how once a name clicks, the character steps out from the shadows to confirm it, and almost nothing can alter it from then on.

    Hmmm.
I like Otto. Now that you’ve got that settled, how about providing us a story about her life?

  7. Alison Says:

An interesting life she has indeed. You’ll read a lot about her in the book, having most questions answered…

  8. Sarah Says:

Great choice Alison…I cant wait to read more of your story…

  9. Rosslyn Says:

Very unusual choice! I’ll be interested to see how it affects the character.

And I tagged you, too. :-) See my blog for details.
