These days it’s easy to get bogged down in current events.  Our nation, our world has had um, interesting things happening lately.  road-trip

So, let’s take an imaginary break.  Let’s all run away to…well, you tell me!  Think about where you would like to go in the next few months if you could.  Here are a few guidelines, just fer grins: up to nine continuous days total, road trip within North America, budget isn’t a consideration. Where would you go?  What would you see and do?  What vehicle?

We’ll see what you have in mind, then I’ll tell you my itinerary.  Pack your bags!

When I first read this, I thought that 9 days sounded like a long time and then I started planning my trip/s….

*Option #1 would probably be a trip partly by myself because it would start in NYC doing the whole girly/creative thing and DH and kids would just NOT be interested in that. But that would be just for the first 3 days of the trip.

Then I would like to travel up the Eastern seaboard visiting B&B’s in Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts… hmmmm, I am thinking this part wouldn’t include the kids either… just DH. ;o)

*Option #2 comes from plans that DH is making. He is planning a canoeing/backpacking trip for him and Jacob up in the Boundary Waters. At the same time that they are doing that, I would like to stay in little inns in the same areas and hit the antique stores of the areas during the day. Meet them in the evenings at their campsites for dinner and campfire and then go back to my girly, fluffy inn room for the nights. ;o)

Great topic! I would head to Pennsylvania. (It’s all about obsessive novel research for me.) First would be Pittsburgh to make sure I have my terrain correct in my second novel. While there, I’d go to the local historical museum. Then I’d go to Colonial Williamsburg so I could see all the crafters. Paper-based research is one thing, but nothing beats seeing the craftspeople at work, touching the goods, and smelling wet leather, hot metal, or nasty tallow.

Alright Christi, you should go with Alison and I on our east coast cruise this fall. We’re starting from NYC and then going to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and Maine and Boston. Hopefully seeing great fall color all the way.

And it’s only 153 days away (that’s forever!)

Alison! What a great post :) I’d drive one of the coasts. East or West. Convertible. Top down or Harley! Ocean veiws. Hiking. Good company. . . whew! Wish it were real!

  5. Alison Says:

Where can I sign up for all of these? (Except the cruise…my checking account says I’m already signed up for that one!)
    They each sound amazing.

And Rosslyn, I can relate so much to the research motivation. We’re even planning to so some on this east coast cruise. Of course, it wouldn’t take much for me to turn anything into research… =)

    Keep ‘em coming.

Road trip along Route 66, in a ’68 covertible camaro (a RED one!), with every CD Jimmy Buffett ever made, and stopping at every greasy spoon between Chicago and Los Angeles.

God bless you, Alison. This is JUST what I need. The world weighs heavy now, but good is all around us as well.

I ADORE road trips. I love having my family under one portable roof for days on end. My kids are great travelers if they know they have to be, as in long trips.

So, pack the family and head out west. Here’s a dichotomy: I love to stay in the most remote places but in nice, comfy hotels. Think state parks with lodges or hotels. :) So I’m thinking maybe Colorodo, Estes Park.

Ahhhh, I needed that, Alison. Thanks so much!

I’m going north to Alaska; I’m goin north–the rush is on!

    Way up north!

But it would be hard to do in only 9 days. How about extending this to 90?

  9. Sarah (aka Mrs. Travis) Says:

I want to go, I want to go!

All of these sound so wonderful. I love road trips.

But I have to go along with Travis and say Alaska here I come! Would love to road trip to Alaska. Up through Canada, through to Anchorage, out to Seward…..I think I need more than 9 days….

  10. Travis Inman Says:

Let’s go, Baby. We’ll make a lifetime of it!
